Minnie Driver Releases Second Album
Minnie Driver’s “Everything I’ve Got In My Pocket” debut did not appear to be anywhere near commercial success, but the
actress dared to give her musical talents an another attempt. On July, 10 she will release her second album entitled
“Seastories”.
Though best known as an actress, Driver defied critics’ expectations and established herself as a serious artist and
musician. Her new CD goes farther in exploring new musical territory, from the rich sonic textures of “Beloved” to the
bluesy soul of “Cold Dark River” to the seductive minor key groove of “Mockingbird” to the poetic chamber folk of “Lakewater
Hair.”
The twelve new songs were written by Driver herself. She also played some guitar. The album features performances from Ryan
Adams and his backing band The Cardinals, indie queen Liz Phair, keyboardist Rami Jaffe (The Wallflowers/Foo Fighters),
guitarist Marc Doc Dauer (Pete Yorn) and Zack Ray (Gnarls Barkley). The whole effort was mixed by recent Grammy winner Jim
Scott, who worked with “Dixie Chicks”. Driver’s vivid lyrics, soaring melodies and spirited performances on this thoroughly
pleasing collection of intelligent pop are never overwhelmed, though.
“There was a whole flavor to the New York sessions that was darker and more insular, while the L.A. vibe was open, sunnier
and more hopeful,” says Driver, who now lives in Los Angeles.
Driver began her career as a musician in the early 1990s with a band called “Puff, Rocks And Brown”, who never released an
album, though. She then earned an Academy Award nomination for her role in “Good Will Hunting” and only then returned to
play not on-screen, but to play a guitar.
The 37 year old star will tour the U.S. this summer.
