Emma Bunton – not giving up!
Emma Bunton, more known as the innocent-looking blonde of Spice Girls, was born in London in 1976. After her parents separated when Emma was 11, she was raised by her mother. Being interested in performing and acting, Emma went to Sylvia Young Theatre School. What she has learnt there came in handy after she was successfully auditioned for the most popular band of the 90s – the Spice Girls. However, it is even more interesting to follow the development of Emma’s music career after the split of the band. In April of 2001, she released her debut album “A Girl Like Me” with the single “What Took You So Long”. This song has probably been the first and only success of Emma Bunton since her solo career. It topped the charts in the United Kingdom. The song is great itself, but the popularity of Emma at that time was partly caused by her image of former member of Spice Girls. Sad enough, a little later her name was lost in the light of rising stars and already famous singers.
Her next album “Free Me” was released on January 25, 2005, in the United Stated, but it did not even make it to the Billboard Top 200 albums. She has been trying to promote her album appearing on TV, performing in popular nightclubs, but it has not sold impressive number of copies. Even in Emma’s homeland, the United Kingdom, the album was able to climb only as high as seventh position.
Emma Bunton’s latest album “Life in Mono”, which was released in December of 2006, sold only 44 000 copies in the UK. The album occupied an embarrassing 65th position in the UK top albums chart. The album singe “All I Need to Know” became the biggest disappointment for Emma Bunton during her six-year-long solo career. It has appeared in the UK singles chart on the very low 60th position.
But what’s interesting about Emma Bunton and her attempts to start solo career is that this innocent-looking blonde girl doesn’t give up. She doesn’t get stumbled in her talent, she outlasts the misfortunes of the low album sales and low ranking in music charts. She continues her artistic search and that’s the only right thing to do in her situation. Music history knows many examples (like Sir Elton John) when after unsuccessful attempts and artistic search, singer finds oneself, releases hit after hit and becomes a prominent singer of all times. From misfortunes to the stars!
